It appears that downtown Midland could use a light rail system (e.g., a trolley-line), which would run down Wall Street. The light rail system would supplement the current mass transit system and provide an alternative transportation method; moreover, by policy, the transit authority should also buy 100% wind-generated electricity to decouple the variable cost structure away from the volatile commodity complex.
Can you imagine grabbing a juicy steak and several cocktails with your loved one(s) at Wall Street and riding the trolley to the planned Midland Tennis Center for some USTA action? After watching a few solid matches, you could ride back into town for some nightlife and/or other types of action.
Ideally, the light rail system must connect to the airport and Odessa. This current bus system's major design flaw is its inability to transport riders between Midland and Odessa.
I got your light rail streetcar. I just need a place to put it. It's a 1921 American Car Company streetcar that I found in Andrews, Texas. I'm currently rebuilding the mechanical systems that were scrapped and it's going to take a lot of money to get it running. Much less put in rails.
I'm not sure if we have the density/population to support such a system but there's got to be something better than the bus system. I support public transit, but buses definitely have their negatives?
