Farmer Matt here, You there,

We have yet another new vendor at the Midland Downtown Farmers’ Market.  This week we welcome Stephanie Sisco of Cute & Crafty. Stephanie will be selling eye pillows that contain Young Living Essential Oils. Young Living’s Essential Oils are the Worlds Leader in 100% Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. The pillows will be scented with Lavender and Peace & Calming.  I also want to use this time to plug a few other vendors that weren’t plugged before their first outting.  Archie Huckabee with Angry Redneck Farms has been with us for a few weeks with local produce, including but not limited to, black-eyed peas, peppers, okra, and squash.  Holy Cow! made their first appearance this past week w/ soy candles but will return with incense, dreamcatchers, and wooden crosses.  Also, Pamela Johnson with Blessed Indulgence has opened her new store front at 3303 N. Midkiff Rd. Suite 272 in the San Miguel square, inside the atrium, upstairs from Woofers & Tweeters in Midland, TX.  She offers her product line of body care products along with various other vendors’ wares.

Vote for the Midland Downtown Farmers’ Market.  Help promote our viability and visibility. http://www.care2.com/farmersmarket/19319.  I love the positivity and enthusiasm.

Shoulder Share Backpack Drive. Stand shoulder to shoulder and help shoulder their burden by bringing gently used or new backpacks to the Midland Downtown Farmers’ Market this Saturday and the next. We will, in turn, distribute them evenly amongst area schools for those that are not able to afford what most consider a necessity.  We will also take monetary donations specifically for the purchase of new backpacks.

MDFM is also raffling a steer hide generously donated by Schuyler Wight of YT Beef.  The hide is valued well above $500, and a ticket can be purchased for $5.  Below is a brief history of the actual hide.  All the proceeds go to support the Midland Downtown Farmers’ Market.  Thanks Schuyler.  Each fall, I make a trek up to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge to buy replacement genetics for my herd of longhorn cattle. Several years ago, the Refuge management decided to sell some of the trophy steers. A trophy steer is so called, because longhorn steers horns never stop growing. As they get older, some of them can have horns that are 6 feet from tip to tip. The steer that I purchased was 5 years old, and weighed about 1400 lbs. He had an impressive set of horns, which are now hanging in my office. His hide is the one that will be raffled off to benefit the market.
The Wichita Mountain Refuge was established by Congress, and one of its mandates is the presevervation of the longhorn. Prior to the refuge, longhorn cattle were in danger of extinction, due to crossbreeding efforts of private ranchers. For more information on the refuge:

Remember to mark October 31 in your calendars.  MDFM will be celebrating our 2nd Birthday on this Sat.  This will be  aspecial event with lots of special specials.  You definitely want to be there for this.  I’ll update you as the details develop.
As always, this Saturday will be a grand time.

Midland Downtown Farmers’ Market - MDFM

August 14th, 2009 by LIVE Midland : Posted in Uncategorized

Farmer Matt here, You there,

What a fantastic time last Saturday.  Reconnected with old and new friends.  Judy Wright put out a great performance, and you responded in kind.  I’m really excited about the ahead.  Thanks.

Is  someone out there interested in starting their own part-time gig?  I am interested in passing the coffee torch along.  The ideal person will need to committ to each Saturday during the market season and be willing to be their own boss.  Do you like coffee?  Do you like people?  Do you like extra cash?  Then this might be just the thing for you.  Let me know.

Local Veggies, Beef, Honey, Baked Goodies, Jewelry, Pickles, Eggs, Soy Candles, Salsas, Photography, Relishes, Doggy Treats, Body Care, Arts, Coffee, Massage, Crafts, More.

Don’t forget about Butch Morgan next Saturday (August 22nd).  “Butch  has been breaking ground since the 70s, blending Country, Rock, Folk and all the other influences in his life into original songs filled with insightful lyrics and catchy melodies. Other artists cover his material and his songs have virtually become anthems.”  I couldn’t say it any better.  Show your support for a true Texas legend and a Midland Saturday staple.

Also, we’re still in the running for America’s Favorite Farmers’ Market.  You only have one month to cast your vote for the MDFM, your favorite farmers’ market.
