Sarah Green Photography

October 29th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in General

We were looking for pictures of Midland’s downtown area, when we ran across Sarah Green’s blog.  We just love her work!  She is a young professional photographer living in Midland, and we just love her photojournalistic style.  When we contacted her about posting some of her pictures on our blog about Downtown Midland, she told us that she enjoys Midland’s downtown area, and that she would love to see downtown revitalized!  She said that she saw such untapped potential in the downtown area, and was very enthusiastic about our blog.

Thanks for your help Sarah, we love your pictures!

Pumpkin Patch!

October 28th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Seasonal

This is such a fun thing to do for Halloween.  When you go there, there are so many families there taking pictures!  Most were in Halloween costumes!  See information and pictures below.  Will only be open through October 31st….

St. Luke’s United Methodist Church is proud to welcome back the 12th annual Pumpkin Patch at the corner of Powell Street and Louisiana in Midland, Texas.  Please come and join in on the fun at the patch.  Come bring your family for great photo opportunities.

The Pumpkin Patch will open Monday, October 13 and run through October 31, 2008.

We have a huge variety of sizes, shapes and prices fof pumpkins, including the “Minis” and gourds.  We will also be selling holiday decorations.

Our hours are Monday through Saturday

9:30am-6:30pm and Sunday 12:00-5:00pm.

The Patch is also in sponsorship with a Barnes and Noble Book Fair this year. Barnes and Noble will donate part of the proceeds from and book sale to St. Luke’s UMC between October 17th and November 4th if you present a coupon obtained by visiting The Pumpkin Patch.

For more information, please call the church office at 694-2571 or check our web site at www.stlukesumcmidland.org.

Tall City Eattiques

October 28th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

Enjoyed the new antique store downtown! Thanks to the owners for letting us take some pictures. It’s a great place to go with the girls on the weekends, or for a quiet lunch downtown! Especially if you want to avoid the crowds at the usual lunch places during the work week. It’s only been open for a month or so, so go by if you haven’t already!

More Local Merchants

October 28th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

Pictures from Farmer’s Market this past Saturday….

Midland local Audrey was at the Market selling her Granny Grans Relish…. She had crab dip and relish samples available, and it was delicious!  And Kathy’s Kreations was at the Market again this week, we just love Kathy’s booth!  She is so creative!

Lots going on….

October 25th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in General

It’s hard for us to believe that people are actually reading this blog, but evidently they are, and that’s exciting!

Our life in Midland for the past three days:

Thursday:
5:30 P.M. Chris & Cory attend Young Professionals in Energy (YPE) Happy Hour at the Petroleum Club (Downtown)
7:45 P.M. The two of us stop by The Bar (Downtown), too crowded and nowhere to sit, and we want to go to dinner.
8:00 P.M. We go to Cancun Bar & Grill (Downtown). It is fantastic, as always. But that’s another blog for another day.

Friday:
C&C go to Halloween Party at Friends’ house (Not Downtown)

Saturday:
9:00 A.M. Chris goes golfing.
9:45 A.M. Cory goes to Farmer’s Market (yes, again, because it’s awesome and you should too). (Downtown)
10:30 A.M. Cory meets two girlfriends, Stori and Kelley, at The Bar for brunch. (Downtown) Tons of people there, enjoying brunch and watching the Tech game on the TVs.
11:45 A.M. Cory goes by Tall City Eattiques, to check out the antique shop. (Downtown)
12:15 P.M. Cory goes by the Pumpkin Patch, impressed by pumpkin selection. (Not Downtown)

And people say there’s nothing to do in Downtown Midland! Pictures to follow from YPE Happy Hour, Eattiques, and the Pumpkin Patch, so stay tuned….

Downtown Farmers’ Market

October 18th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

Did you know Midland had a Farmers’ Market? Neither did we! And we really enjoyed it.  It is downtown, has a neat community atmosphere, and there were other booths in addition to the fresh produce.  Now we know where we will be getting our coffee on Saturday mornings!

Farmer Matt.  He is the founder of the Farmers Market.  Check out the feature on him in the MRT, http://www.mywesttexas.com/articles/2008/08/31/life/top_stories/farmers_market_8-31.txt.

Bunny’s Bread.  There is a reason her table is almost empty, this was at 10:30!  If you want her full selection, plan to be there at 8:45.  All of her profits go to charity, and this week’s charity was Midland Fairhavens.  And take it from us, her goodies are delicious!  Keep up the good work Bunny!

The Market is family friendly….  and dog friendly too!

This is Josh and Mary.  They sell jewelry from Africa, to support Mary’s sister’s efforts in Uganda aiding orphans.  You can check out their website at www.africabridgesofhope.com.

Friday Night at The Bar

October 18th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

Last night we went to The Bar for an hour or so, and met up with some friends.  We weren’t there for very long, so not many pics!  But we will be featuring The Bar more in future posts.  The band was Mister Happy, good band, and we’re very happy they have lowered the cover charge!  Went home early, as we had an early morning at The Farmers Market the next day.   P.S. We were told The Bar will be closed this Tuesday night, as they are hosting guests for the Oil Show.

Welcome to our blog!

October 13th, 2008 by Cory and Chris : Posted in General

Welcome to our blog!  For the next few months, we’ll be posting our thoughts and experiences in Downtown Midland.  We both grew up in West Texas, went off to school (both Aggies!) and returned 3 years ago to Midland.  We are excited about the plans for downtown Midland, and we’ll be posting pictures of our favorite downtown spots.

In the meantime, we have posted just a few pics of us, the first from Labor Day weekend, the second and third from our honeymoon.  We are newlyweds, and today is our one month anniversary!  Goodbye for now…..

Chris & Cory
