Martini Glass Grill - UPDATE! - Downtown Midland

February 13th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

More than anything else, people ask us questions regarding our posting in early January about the new Martini Bar in Downtown Midland.  We finally just placed a call to the owner, who gave us the full scoop.

The $10 cover is TEMPORARY - the place is only open right now on Friday and Saturday nights.  The owners, a married couple, are currently waiting on their liquor license, and in the meantime it is BYOB.  They are hoping to host their official restaurant opening tonight, February 13th.  We were assured by the owner that once the restaurant and martini bar are fully open and running, there will be NO cover whatsoever!!

We are hoping to check out the new place soon, especially the restaurant….  Good luck to the owners in their new endeavor!

This Weekend: New Downtown Office, and Mardi Gras!!!

February 11th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in General, Things To Do

This past weekend was spent moving Chris’ office downtown, to a new office, also downtown!  Chris and his partners wanted to stay downtown, because not only could they be in walking distance to most of their clients, they also found great office space available for a reasonable price.  He is very excited about their new office!

So that’s what we did on Saturday.  For those of you who were able to attend the Mardi Gras celebration at the Petroleum Club on Saturday night, we are jealous!  Unfortunately we had a conflict this year, but we have attended in the past.  If you ever get a chance to go, it is a great party!!!  The event is an annual fundraiser for St. Ann’s School.  A sold out crowd enjoyed a delicious Cajun inspired menu before dancing into the wee hours of the morning to the music of “The Pictures.”  We are told the volunteers did an amazing job transforming the Petroleum Club into the French Quarter.

Finally!  Often referred to as “Midland’s Town Square,” looks like Centennial Plaza is getting a much-needed facelift.  Very exciting.

West Texas Music

February 9th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in General, Things To Do

Here’s a reminder of reasons to support local musicians by attending musical acts downtown, at the new Ground Floor coffeeshop, The Mahogany Lounge, The Bar, or the occasional downtown festival/street concert.  We are loving these articles by the MRT about West Texas music icons.  Because this last week marked the 50th anniversary of “The Day the Music Died,” the paper is spotlighting Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Roy Orbison, and Bob Wills.  We’ve never been to the Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock, or the Roy Orbison museum in Wink, but we want to go someday.  The moral of this story is, if you’re bored in Midland, put down the video games and the remote, and instead go to a concert or pick up a guitar.

5-Star Hotel in Downtown Midland??

February 9th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in General

You’ve probably seen this sign on Big Spring….  We don’t know anything about it, but what we do know is that Downtown Midland is in dire need of a nice hotel in downtown, something our community can be proud of when others visit Midland.  Often, visitors have to fly in for business, and the Downtown area, along with their hotel, may be all they see during their brief visit.  Local companies could benefit from a nice downtown hotel to refer clients and prospective employees to stay…. Families could use the space for reunions, overflow at the holidays, and wedding receptions….  The possibilities are endless, so we hope this becomes a reality.
