Celebration of the Arts Street Concert Post-op

May 19th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

Well, I can say that we had a great time on Saturday night at the Street Concert!  We started the evening with dinner at Wall Street, finishing off dinner with a gold brick dessert, which was Cory’s first gold brick experience.  Needless to say, she will be ordering another on special occasions.  Charlie Robison was on his game as usual, and the crowd was really energetic.  At one point, I believe I saw at least half of the general admission audience around the stage two stepping.

After that, we ended up at Betty’s Place for a shuffleboard round robin.  We will be finding a way to beat you next time Jenny and Tyler, I can promise you that!  If you have never been to Betty’s, it is a very laid back local hangout with friendly staff and a dedicated customer base that welcomes anyone walking in the open front doors.  On top of that, it is probably the truest shuffleboard table in town, at least per our research.  Check it out!

Saturday Night: Charlie Robison in Downtown Midland!

May 15th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

We love live music outside!  We are very excited about this.  If it’s anything like the July 4th concerts we’ve been to downtown at Centennial Plaza, it’s going to be great.  Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and get ready to have some fun.  Concert is downtown on the corner of Wall and Main.  Everyone is asking where you get tickets, so here’s what the MRT says:

TICKET INFO:

$20 in advance at Cavender’s in Midland and T.J. Rabbit’s Texas Music store in Odessa

$25 at the Gates

This year’s street concert features Bruce Robison, James Otto and Charlie Robison

Gates open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday

“The street concert is a big part of the success of Celebration of the Arts each year,” said Holeva [Danny, director of Arts Assembly]. “Last year we had approximately 4,000 people attend, and it’s the first big concert party of the season. Kids are back from college. They get to attend and see each other again. And we’re looking forward to all those folks coming out and making this a really big concert for us this year.”

Spring is in the Air… Cafe at the Gardens

May 8th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

Besides the Celebration of the Arts next weekend, (http://www.artsassemblyofmidland.org/coa.htm), it is also that time of year to enjoy some seasonal outdoor dining!  Well, not completely outdoors, but given how the wind in West Texas can be this time of year, maybe a really big greenhouse will do.  Check out Cafe at the Gardens, http://www.alldredgegardens.com/cafe.html.  It is just off Downtown Midland, but a world away from the arid desert climate we know so well.  Enter this lush cafe situated among the flora of Alldredge Gardens, and you will feel like you are in a Caribbean forrest!  They serve a variety of entrees, ranging from creative salads to gourmet sandwiches and even angus hamburgers.  If you are bored with the same cycle of “the usual” restaurants you make the rounds to every month and need a changeup, check out the Cafe for lunch, it will definitely refresh you for the afternoon!

Cafe at the Gardens, 3300 North Fairgrounds Road; Open Monday through Saturday 11-2; Parties in the afternoon or evening by appointment.
