Great article in the MRT today about the new Centennial Plaza Downtown.  It sounds like it is going to be a beautiful new centerpiece of Downtown Midland, and according to the article the goal is to finish by year’s end.  If you haven’t checked it out yet, for more “dreams” and possibilities for Downtown Midland revitalization, please see the section on Live Midland’s website, “Imagine Midland.” http://livemidlandtexas.com/imagine-midland/

Have a great weekend everyone!

Poetry Slam at The Ground Floor - Saturday Night Downtown

August 19th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do

On Saturday night, Chris and his best friend from high school came over and they were grilling out in our backyard.  Since they were catching up, I (Cory) took the opportunity to meet up with my friend Mary Ann for a girls’ dinner at Cancun Grill downtown so we could catch up as well.  As we were walking down Wall Street, a group of people standing outside of The Ground Floor invited us into the downtown (independent!) coffee shop to watch a Poetry Slam.  If you don’t know what this is, you’re in good company because we didn’t either.  We were told that a Poetry Slam is a competition amongst poets, where each poem is read or recited out loud and scored by a panel of five judges which are chosen from the audience.  We declined, as we had dinner plans, and we had plans to meet our husbands afterwards.  Further, in all honesty, spending Saturday night at a poetry reading was not either of our ideas of a good time.  However, we both agreed that any efforts to expand the art scene in Downtown, or throughout Midland for that matter, are welcome and worthwhile.  It is always good to have something different to do!  In summary, we have no idea how the Poetry Slam went - but it still was nice to know that local poetry fans had the option to attend.

Update: Taste of Chicago

August 18th, 2009 by Cory and Chris : Posted in Things To Do
We have gone to lunch together here twice now, and we can honestly report to our readers that the place is AWESOME!  The food is so excellent, and the service is great.  We went with Cory’s dad today…. All 3 of us ordered gyros and they were fantastic.  Order a gyro, you will not regret it, and it will not disappoint!  We hear the other sandwiches, including the signature Italian Beef, Chicago-Style Hot Dog, and Italian Sausage are good too, but if we keep ordering gyros every time we will never know.  Both times we saw people we know, and it’s always full, so the place must be catching on!  Every time we start to complain about nothing new to do in Downtown Midland, a place like this opens up and gives us hope…. Good luck to the new owners with their most excellent restaurant.  Job well done!   P.S. They also have a drive through window, and a website: http://www.letseat.at/t_o_chicago
