Are you a shopper? Athlete? Looking for a family activity? For shoppers, there is the Peddler Show this weekend at Midland Center (http://www.peddlershow.com/). For the athletes and runners, you have the St. Ann’s 5K and 10K Saturday morning. For the families, this weekend brings the classic St. Ann’s Family Fair. If that’s not enough, check out the Downtown Farmer’s Market on Saturday morning, or the new Cigar Frogs one night (the latter is one thing we have on our to-do list - we can vouch for the Farmer’s Market though). See you in Downtown Midland this weekend!
Cory & Chris
P.S. Fair-goers: Keep a good eye on your kids while you are there, it gets very crowded!
It’s Fall, which means it is that time of the year again…. Next weekend is the annual, and much-anticipated, St. Ann’s Family Fair, benefitting St. Ann’s School. It’s also the time of year where it’s cool enough to enjoy a 5K race! The Fair festivities this year include Midland’s 3rd Annual “5K to the Fair” next Saturday morning, September 26th.
If you want a T-shirt, you have one week to register online on or before next Thursday, September 24th at the website below. Registrations will be available on the day of the race as well. Not only will the 5K walk/run be offered on Saturday, but the kids can join in a one mile walk/run, and even a 10K option is being offered which is planned to run through “Old Midland” this year! Hope to see you there.

When it comes to offerings for young adults, the Permian Basin has come a long way in the past four years since we moved back to the area. No less than SIX area Young Professional Associations to be represented at the mixer tonight. Congratulations to the volunteers, including YPM Social Chair Alisha Brown Hudman, that make these events happen! Mixer tonight at the Shack in the Back; $10 entry fee goes towards UTPB Scholarship Fund.
Unfortunately, we had to miss SeptemberFest this year….. We were in South Carolina for family vacation, and we celebrated our first anniversary yesterday! But we are determined to make it out next year. We’ve heard that this year’s event was another success, and we can’t wait for SeptemberFest 2010. Congrats to the Museum staff and volunteers for making this happen!!!
SeptemberFest, cool weather doesn’t disappoint

Another answer to the question, what is there to do in Midland, Texas? When I was a kid, I (Cory) was a book worm. Okay, a book nerd. During the summers, I would beg my parents to take me to the Ector County library so that I could check out 5 Nancy Drew books at a time (they had a limit, only 5 books per author or subject per visit). In any case, this article in the MRT brought back those memories. In a time where most of us can’t afford huge shopping sprees at Barnes & Noble, the library downtown is a fantastic resource for adults and kids!

Did you also know that the library has a second branch on W. Wadley and Midkiff, in the Imperial Shopping Center near Murray’s? Both branches have an excellent website with their locations and hours:
http://www.youseemore.com/midland/
Check out their Fall activities! Starting Sept. 8 at the downtown library:
Preschool storytime: 10 a.m. Wednesdays (3- to 5-year-olds)
Babes in Book Land :9:30 to 9:50 a.m. Thursdays (ages birth to 18 months)
Tots and Tales Storytime: 10:30 a.m. Thursday ( 18 months to 3-year-olds)
Winter hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, also will resume after Labor Day.
[We do have to warn you about one thing: If you are going to the Downtown location, do NOT park in the parking lot across the street from the entrance! The free parking is in the fenced area SOUTH of the library. Do not park in the parking lot on Missouri… there is a faded sign that says No Parking, or Private Parking, and the men that own the lot watch with their binoculars from their office and will boot your car immediately (They make tons of money doing this, and they do not care if that was the last place in Midland to park, you’re standing in the pouring rain in your best suit, and you only parked there for five minutes. Trust me on this. Chris said I was the only person in Midland unaware of this parking lot scam). Thank goodness we are getting more parking Downtown!]
