The Ground Floor Coffee House Now Open Downtown

A new location, fresh menu and new ownership are just a few of the updated features of the recently reopened Ground Floor Coffee House in Downtown Midland. Owner Gregory Robichaud opened up the doors to this long-missed Midland establishment after purchasing the naming rights and some of the old equipment from the previous owner who closed it down years ago.

Robichaud said his goals in reopening the coffee shop were simple: “I really wanted a place for young kids to come and hang out Downtown because that is what I used to love about the old Ground Floor when I was younger.” And with loungy couches, free wi-fi Internet access and a stage already equipped with microphone and amplifier, achieving that goal should be simple indeed.

“We encourage all local musicians to come in and play, and we want to put all local art up on the walls,” he said. “I’m a musician and I wanted a place where people could come and play whatever they wanted.”

There is something for everyone in the hip, new modern atmosphere: social seating around couches, individual tables for business professionals or couples; scones, cookies and cake in the mornings and evenings and catered sandwiches during the day; tea, cocoa, espresso, lattes, granitas, and of course, coffee. A medium latte will only put you out $2.98 at the conveniently located shop right across from the courthouse – bit cheaper than most of the chain shops around town and with a lot more personality.
