As chancellor, Hance is the chief executive officer of all campuses and academic sites of Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Angelo State University. He is focusing his energies on continuing quality enrollment growth, enhancing research in areas of excellence and accentuating the programs and opportunities that prepare students for professional and personal success.
Before becoming chancellor, Hance was a partner in Hance Scarborough, an Austin law firm. His firm’s primary focus was on state and federal administrative law, regulatory law and legislative law. In addition, he advised clients in oil, gas and other energy-related matters.
Hance began a career in politics in 1974 when he won a seat in the Texas State Senate. While in the Senate, he was one of only four members who served jointly on the chamber’s two most powerful committees: Finance and State Affairs. Four years later, he won election to the 19th Congressional District.
Hance is a native of Dimmitt, Texas. He and his wife, Susie Hance, also an attorney, have five children and seven grandchildren.
Celebration of the Arts!
Join the Arts Assembly of Midland for the 28th annual ‘Celebration of the Arts’ May 20 – 22 in downtown Midland. A three-day art festival and celebration featuring arts and crafts, visual and performing artist, food and children’s events, ‘Celebration of the Arts’ has something for everyone! Entertainment this year include: Joe Nichols, Los Lonely Boys and Midland’s own, Cory Yeager Band. This year’s featured artist is Midland native and painter, Rebecca Beal McClure. George W. Bush Childhood Home 5th Anniversary Celebration
The mission of the George W. Bush Childhood Home, Inc., is to express and interpret the history of one of America’s great families by telling the story of the Bush Family and the childhood of George W. Bush in Midland, Texas, and celebrating the lives of two presidents, two governors, and two first ladies.
Make plans to attend their 5th Anniversary celebration on April 10, 2011, from 2-5 PM.
Activities will include a 50′s car show, FREE ice cream sundaes, FREE tours of the Historic Home, FREE George W. Bush lapel pins, patriotic tattoos for the kids and Gift Shop specials. The event is free and open to the public.
The George W. Bush Childhood Home opened to the public on April 11, 2006. Since then they have seen over 30,000 visitors from 64 foreign countries and all fifty states.

United Way of Midland Annual Meeting & Celebration
United Way of Midland will hold their Annual Meeting and Celebration Luncheon on Tuesday, March 1 from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the Midland Center. Tickets are $18 per person. Sponsor tables of 8 are $180. To reserve tables or individual tickets, email dduran@uwmidland.org or call 432.685.7700.
Outgoing United Way of Midland Board President Shan Moon and 2010 Resource Development Vice Chair, Steve Gray, along with other volunteers, will be recognized for their service and commitment to the United Way. New board members and officers for the class of 2011 will be installed.
The 2010 campaign total will be announced and companies with the highest levels of campaign participation will receive awards. United Way currently funds 50 programs through 26 program providers in addition to awarding Community Initiative Grants.
